McLaren see related | So, it's been forever since I posted, so I thought I would write something. Life is busy. Between school, work, church, and wedding planning, my life is completely packed and stressful. Life is good; don't get me wrong. And the time is certainly flying, but it's a little tiring. A few highlights of my life this semester: explained prostitutes and homosexuals to my 7th grade sunday school class; smarted off for the first time to a professor at MTSU (it was all in fun...Mel would understand); found out a good friend is pregnant (a "yay for life" would be an appropriate sentiment, I believe); made an eloping cake; threw a bridal shower for my oldest friend (We've been best friends since middle school and now we are both getting married within weeks of each other...it's funny to see each other grow up); went lingerie shopping with my mom (yes...that's right...my mother). Yeah, that about does it for highlights. I won't bother you with the details of my never-ending schoolwork.
| So, last week I made a literal journey into adulthood! I took my first ever road trip all by my lonesome. Many of you may know my fear of driving long distances due to my uncanny ability to fall asleep in cars (and having fallen asleep at the wheel once, putting half of my family in the hospital). But, I finally decided that enough is enough. I'm 22 years old and about to be a married woman and there are just some things I need to do. So, I hopped in Betty (my trusty truck) and I left for West Virginia. I was so proud of myself!! I even navigated through Charleston, WV during my stay, and then I left WV to go a completely different way to Chattanooga where I stayed with Ashley one night and then the next day I went back home!! I realize to most people this doesn't seem like a big deal, but to me, it was really a defining moment in my life.
I was also glad I made the trip because I know it meant the world to JD, and that in and of itself was worth it. We had a great time, eating out, meeting his friends and co-workers, being sexually harassed by his uncle/boss, reading harry potter, decorating his house with cheezy christmas decorations while he was gone at work!! It was a great week/weekend.
Also, to all you Bryan chorale people...AMAZING! I loved the Messiah. You guys did terrific. Shout out to Emily Cook who sounded like an angel! No joke. You were amazing, Emily. It made me miss being in a choir where the music actually meant something to me and meant something to the director.
| So, I spent my first Thanksgiving away from my family in Texas. It made me miss them very much, but I had a wonderful holiday none the less. I spent the weekend with JD's family and it was so much fun. I made my mom's homemade stuffing (it was amazing, I am very proud of myself). It was fun hanging out with the future in-laws. We played lots of games and watched Titanic for some odd reason (it'd be good if it weren't for the love story). We went to see Deja vu which is a really really good suspenseful movie. And I did something I haven't done in a very very very long time....I read a whole book...just for the fun of it!!!!! I read the 1st Harry Potter book and am 3/4 of the way through the 2nd one. You know you've had a holiday when you can read bubble gum books.
BUT, since I really took the weekend completely off from all responsibilities, I am now into the busiest week of the semester! I have to finish my bibliography project which I have entitled "Femine Roles and Gender Identities in the Argentine Tango: a selective annotated bibliography" and then this weekend is my last choir concert of the semester. We are doing the Messiah, but I have to say, I would rather be singing it with the Bryan Chorale...my new choir is so disappointing this year.
| So, I'm feeling completely nasty right now. I've been craving this restaurant here in the boro, and today me and my roomie and her boyfriend and our friend meagan's husband went there for lunch. It was pretty good, except now I feel really icky. My tummy and head hurt! Of course, that's what I get for going to a place called Toots!
I just finished my mid-term for Conducting Problems and Score Interpretation. I was given 6 scores with no names or composers and I was supposed to say what they were, who wrote them, in what period they were written, and why I think all of that. Wow. It was actually kind of fun, but man it was a witch of a project. But at least it is over now! Thankfully.
| So, I just made my harpsichord debut! The woman I work for found out I played piano, so as part of my job I became the chamber orchestra harpsichordist. We just had our concert. I played Henry Purcell's Midsummer nights dream! It was kind of fun. I've never played a harpsichord before! It was quite the experience. Wow, this is a short post.
